Margao: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar will face justice and pay the price for ‘vote chori’.
Gandhi joined the Congress's 'Goy Rakhon (Save Goa) Yatra' in Margao, walking two kilometres with workers and leaders.
"PM Modi, Amit Shah and CEC Gyanesh Kumar will face justice and pay the price for what they have done," he said while addressing a public meeting here.
"The entire country knows that CEC Gyanesh Kumar implements ‘vote chori’ and Amit Shah and PM Modi back him," he added.
He said the Congress is a protector of the Constitution, adding that Modi, Shah and Gyanesh Kumar know they can’t escape from us.
Gandhi said India used to have a world-class education system earlier, but now pellet guns are being used against student protesters.
The Yatra, which commenced on September 22, saw Rahul Gandhi's participation on Sunday as the party stepped up election campaign efforts ahead of the 2027 state assembly elections. The yatra began from Daivadnya Bhavan at Calconda and concluded at Dr Rajendra Prasad Stadium at Margao.
Gandhi had announced his participation with a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Goa, describing it tenure full of "misrule and loot".
"BJP's record in Goa: 15 years of misrule and loot. 15 years of chori. Land chori. Paisa chori. Jobs chori. MLA chori. And above all, vote chori. Together, let's tell the BJP: Goa is not for sale. Goa belongs to its people. Tomorrow, 18 October, I will walk with you in the Goy Rakhonn (Save Goa) Yatra to defend Goa's identity, dignity and future. Join me at 3:30 PM at Calconda, " Gandhi said on X.
BJP governs Goa and emerged as the single largest party in 2022, winning 20 of 40 Assembly seats and reducing the Congress to 11. The next Assembly elections are expected in 2027.
